Modern Matter began as a jewellery atelier, and it shows. Each knob and pull is machined from solid brass, hand-finished, and many are set with semi-precious and natural gemstones. Banbury Lane carries the line for architects, designers and builders specifying it across kitchen, bath and millwork, with most pieces available to order directly online.
The Studio

Modern Matter grew out of a jewellery atelier, and the question that started it was simple: can you make these earrings into hardware? The studio brought a jeweller's eye for proportion, finish and stone to cabinet and furniture fittings, and built a brand around the idea that a pull can carry as much design intent as anything else in the room.
Every piece is solid brass, hand-finished, and many are accented with semi-precious and natural gemstones. The line is built in two registers: Modern Matter's own studio collections, and a deep roster of designer collaborations, with Mark D. Sikes, Eddie Ross, Barrie Benson and Sarah Bartholomew among them.

Materials and Finishes
Brass, stone, and a jeweller's finishing.
Modern Matter works across several material languages, and coordinating them is part of specifying the line well. Most pieces are solid brass in hand-applied finishes; the studio's signature is the gemstone work that comes straight from its jewellery roots.
Brass and finishes.
Solid brass in hand-applied finishes: Polished Brass, Polished Nickel, Satin Brass Matte, Burnished Brass, Antique Brass and Patina. Living finishes will mellow over the life of a project, as intended, not a defect.
Gemstones.
Semi-precious and natural stones set into the custom pieces: Amazonite, Labradorite, Lapis, Malachite, Moonstone, Prehnite, Rose Quartz, Tiger's Eye, White Quartz and Dalmatian Jasper among them. Each stone is unique, so no two pieces read exactly alike.
Alabaster, porcelain and enamel.
Select pieces add hand-carved alabaster (Valencia), fired porcelain (Clementine) and enamel detailing, the decorative extremes of the line.
Gemstone and custom-finish selection is available on most collections by request. Banbury Lane can coordinate stone and finish choices across cabinet hardware and the rest of your hardware program in the same conversation.
