Severin Fayerman founded Baldwin in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1946 on a single conviction: the smallest details decide whether a home feels built to last. Eight decades later the line is still solid forged brass, still precision-engineered, and still the reference point the rest of the category is compared to. The weight is real, not implied. Solid brass through the core, not plated over a lesser metal, which is why a Baldwin lever turns the same way in year twenty as it did on day one. Estate is configured to order, so it is specified through us rather than added to a cart. Baldwin finishes fall into two families, and choosing between them is part of specifying the line well. Lacquered finishes such as Lifetime Polished Brass are protected to hold their lustre and resist wear. Living finishes patina over the life of the home as the design intends, not a defect. Baldwin's Lifetime Finishes carry a warranty for as long as you own the home.
We coordinate finish selection across the full hardware program, entry, interior doors, cabinetry, and bath, so the brass reads consistently from the front door through the kitchen. Honey Bronze and Satin Brass tones are matched carefully against the rest of the specification rather than chosen in isolation.
